The Open Forum for Development Effectiveness is an initiative led by a diverse coalition of CSOs from around the world to identify the elements that are essential to the development effectiveness of CSOs. This process is unique in its effort to create a global CSO consensus on the principles to which we hold ourselves accountable and to which we wish to be held accountable by the constituencies we serve and represent, by our fellow CSOs, and by donors. It also consolidates views on CSO accountability and implementation of these principles, as well as minimum standards for an enabling environment.

The Open Forum is one of the first ever global, cross-sectoral initiatives in the field of development initiated by CSOs, and its main goal is to define and promote the roles and effectiveness of the CSO sector in development, based on a shared framework of principles. This has been achieved through an extensive consultation process, culminating in the International Framework for CSO Development Effectiveness, which is a consolidated statement on CSO effectiveness from thousands of CSOs from across the globe.

With this survey are seeking to do a preliminary assessment of CSO experiences of the Open Forum process, and gather inputs and perspectives on the future requirements of civil society in order to continue to put the principles and activities of CSO development effectiveness into practice.

With this survey, we hope to:

  • Assess the scope and reach of the Open Forum activities in your country and organization
  • Develop a preliminary understanding about the most important activities and impacts of the process; and
  • Gather views and inputs into the future needs of civil society in terms of our own development effectiveness and the implementation of the International Framework for CSO Development Effectiveness and the Istanbul Principles
