It is a busy and exciting new phase for the work undertaken by the Open Forum! After successfully finalizing the International Framework for CSO Development Effectiveness in the global CSO community and obtaining its multi-stakeholder recognition in the Busan Partnership, it is now time for concrete steps to realize these achievements through individual CSO operations in their local realities.

So we have just launched the Implementation and Advocacy Toolkits to provide guidance for national-level CSO work. At the same time, CSOs around the world are discussing concrete steps forward for the Istanbul Principles and the Enabling Environment:

Canada

Canadian CSOs held a debrief on the outcomes of the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF4). Reflects Fraser-Reilly King of Canadian Council for International Cooperation (CCIC) which organized the event: " perhaps most important to all of us, how is the Canadian International Development Agency going to implement all of the commitments made in Busan? ... what are its plans for civil society with respect to the Istanbul Principles? "

Cyprus

The Cyprus consultation on Implementing the Istanbul Principles is taking place on the 26th to 27th of January 2012 in the neutral zone in Nicosia, working with both Turkish and Greek CSOs to develop some national level strategies. The event is organized together with NGO Support Centre. Open Forum will be sharing more information following this event - in the meantime you can view some live updates on Facebook and Twitter.

Japan

Our Japanese colleagues at national CSO platform JANIC - Japan NGO Center for International Cooperation, mobilized the 3rd National Consultation on CSO Development Effectiveness on this 17th of January. The focus was on the challenges ahead - " above all, putting the Istanbul Principles in practice ". Indeed, " recognizing the implementation of the principle as an indispensable basis for CSOs to fulfill the responsibility as an independent development actor " set the stage for this 3rd consultation in Japan.
